Phil Goldfarb – Traveling to America in Steerage and Whether to Admit or Deport our Ancestors

Phil Goldfarb was born and raised in New Jersey and is a 4^th generation pharmacist.  After receiving his degree he entered the Army Medical Service Corps where he served as the administrative officer for the Brooke Army Medical Center, retiring as the Captain, in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Researching genealogy for 35 plus years, Phil is the founding and current president of the JGS-Tulsa, OK. which he founded in 2005.  He has lectured extensively on various genealogical topics, published articles in numerous periodicals and authors a monthly column for the Tulsa Jewish Review.  Phil has written two books; A Page of History: Passport Applications 1851-1914 and 1915-1925.  He is a member of the of JewishGen Leadership Team as well as being the lead moderator for the Jewish Gen Discussion Group.  He was the chairman of the 2020 IAJGS Awards Committee and sits on the Board of Directors for several non-profit organizations. 

In July 2020 he won an Emmy Award as a Co-Producer for the Tulsa Historical Society’s documentary titled: L’dor V’dor Generation to Generation which has been aired on PBS stations around the U.S.A. 

In his long career he has given over 2,000 presentations as well as teaching a course on presentation skills.  Phil also serves as the editor of the popular “JewishGen Weekly News Nosh.”
